Question: How do I create a combination chart that is not in the Excel chart library?

Answer: A simple rule that works almost always is to create a chart with all the data sets you want as a single chart type, say column chart. Then, select the specific series in the chart that you want to be a different type. With it selected, select Chart | Chart Type... and set the chart type you want. If XL supports that particular combination of chart types, you will get the correct result. If not, use CTRL-Z and undo the damage.

When you have one particular series selected, the Chart Type selection applies only to that series. In no series is selected, the selection applies to all series in the chart.
